Who we are - introducing Marlborough Choral Society
Marlborough Choral Society members have been making music together for about 50 years and there has been a Choral Society in Marlborough as far back as the 1860s.
We currently have two Musical Directors: Gill Mortimer celebrated her 20th year with us in 2022 and David Ripley has been with us for over 10 years. We are very fortunate to have two such musical and enthusiastic Directors.
Along with Gill and David and our accompanists, we also have noted soprano soloist, singing teacher and voice coach, Emma Pooley in the choir. As well as performing as a soloist at many of our concerts, Emma helps us to get the best from our voices,
We usually have 2 concerts a year, one before Christmas and the other around April. Our rehearsals run from September until April with a break in the summer, although there are sometimes some summer singing evenings.
Most of our concerts take place in St Mary's Church, Marlborough. We sometimes have concerts in other venues in Marlborough, and occasionally further afield, such as Malmesbury Abbey. The choir rehearses weekly at St. Mary's Church in Marlborough.
The continually expanding repertoire encompasses music from medieval times to the present, ranging from large choral works through lighter pieces to songs and carols.
We are joined in our concerts by Emma and other wonderful soloists. Most of our concerts are accompanied by one of the skilled local organists, and we are often joined by other musicians.
We welcome new members. If you are interested in singing with us, see please visit the Join Us page.
The choir is managed by a committee elected by the membership at the AGM.
The choir has been registered as a Charity since 1986.
